For Primary School aged children, appointments usually involve more play and creativity, to harness the natural language of children!

Usually the process will start with a parent or carer initial assessment appointment without your child, to allow you to speak freely about your concerns and worries, and to allow a comprehensive developmental history to be obtained. After that, there will be an initial appointment with your child, which will combine play, drawing, and writing. Parents and carers typically attend the first and last 10 minutes of this appointment.

From there appointments will involve either parents alone, your child working individually with Alex on different strategies, or all together, depending on what we work out we need!

Alex uses a collaborative and strengths based approach, utilising the following evidence-based therapeutic modalities:

  • Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Trauma-focused Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT)

  • Parenting and carer coaching and support
